See, observe, and (still) learn…

Digital Music from Indonesia

August 1, 2008 · 1 Comment

At least there are a couple of digital music (download) distributors/aggregators/producers/labels in Indonesia. I am not pretending that I know the industry inside out, but since it’s already has a serious impact on telco industry, I should give it a more serious look.

SWA, a couple of weeks ago also featured a story about the future of music in Indonesia, mentioning that telco (Ring Back Tone, to be exact) has kept Indonesian music alive… great, in a country where piracy is very-very-very prevalent.

Secondly, these digital distributors/labels democratize the distribution of music. Long Tail. A lot of indies.

  • IM:Port (http://www.importmusik.com/) – the pioneer of Indie label in Indonesia
  • Equinox DMD (http://www.equinoxdmd.com/) – channel Indonesian music to iTunes store! Yes, iTunes! So bringing Indonesian abroad. (Subcribe to their interesting Podcast to discover new music from this beautiful country!)
  • DB (Digital Beat) Music Store (http://www.digitalbeatstore.com/) – a store, where we buy digital music (MP3), DRM-less. Online and offline purchase. Their physical stores can be found in Blitz Megaplex cinemas complex. Their online store uses Blitz Card for payment.

All of them are willling to distribute and accept songs from aspiring artists, trying to be famous.

I’m interested to explore this further… would be an interesting topic for MoMo.
