Prepaid 3.5G
Indosat launched prepaid broadband wireless service (HSDPA).
Well, not the first technically, because Telkomsel has already lauched 3G/HSDPA service for its Simpati Prepaid. But they are different, Indosat charges the service by volume, while Telkomsel by minute.
The website is not too informative, unfortunately…. http://www.indosatm2.com/index.php/services/indosatnet/prepaid3g. Probably if I download the PDF, I'll understand more. But do I have to download a PDF file and read it through? Why don't put the necessary information in the website.
Probably I'd better call the customer service…. (and put on hold for a couple of hours while they're searching for the correct person to explain the service…)
More Zeros…
I have more zeros than you… is the name of the game. Few days ago, less than a week in fact, XL announced they have 0.00000…1 tariff (six zeros). Now Indosat came with 11 zeros. So it seems that your call is free after 90 seconds. Again this applies not just for on-net but also for off-net calls. (Wondering whether they make money at all…)
Indosat website is down (from my LAN) at this moment so no further details
1-cent Call
One cent can not buy anything (in physical world) in Indonesia. But you can make a one second call with that…
Just launched today, another retaliation move in the recent telco price war. This time it's Indosat.
According to the terms and conditions:
- the first 90 seconds cost Rp 15/sec (or Rp 25/sec for off-net)
- and only after that it will cost you 1cent per second – so Rp 6 per minute, which is basically free
Who has the cheapest tariff for off-net to other mobile subscriber now? Difficult to answer, depending on how long you're going to talk.

Notes:
- All prices in IDR
- Esia rate is for local mobile calls
- I still have to cross check Indosat's T&C after the third minutes – website's down so can't get any details
- I did not take into account the VAT and the market price of the prepaid vouchers – they may add or subtract 5-10% of the above prices…
See… interesting…

IWIC2007, and the winners are…
Last two weeks have been busy weeks for myself. The next day after the MetroTV MDG award ceremony, there is another ceremony that I have to attend.
The award ceremony for Indosat Wireless Innovation Contest 2007. Basically, Indosat searches for talented innovators and opens a contest for everyone to share ideas and to create innovative software/hardware products. I heard that there are thousands of applicants… (My employer is sponsoring the program, so we do have some moral obligations to get this interesting program running well.)
So this is the award ceremony. Where politically, we have to be present.
Interesting facts are:
- the winner for “Idea Generation” category was a 12-year old junior high student… designing a concept to implement RFID in mobile phone

- on the software category, apparently Indonesia DO HAVE talented software developers
- social networking service/software, combined with LBS, is among the most popular submission
- hardware, although the ideas are creative, there is still gaps here
Bravo guys! Keep up the good work. Let me know if there is something that MobileMonday can help
PS. The guest band was “LipStars” — they played this progressive rock/house/pop genre that I can not digest or even listen to. I suddenly felt that I was wayyyy overage, almost over 40… (see these groupies…)
