MetroTV MDGs Awards

I was invited to this first of its kind event, through connections in MoMo. (Jem, thanks ya!)

MetroTV is selecting few companies with the most impactful social responsibility activities or programs that are inline with UN’s Millenium Development Goals.

The event is dubbed: “Leading the Change” – thus leading the Indonesia transformation towards a better nation. Seven companies were awarded, out of 21 nominees, for each 7 programs in the MDG goal. In addition one municipal government were selected.

Interesting. Smart move for Metro. First to own the brand for news TV in Indonesia. And now, first to be the one who promotes MDG actively. It’s about time: there are concerns that Indonesia is not moving fast enough to reach these goals, considering that we are now at the half-time mark.

What are the goals of MDG? I am listing the eight MDG goals here, to be achived in 2015:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development

UN MDG Special Ambassador for Indonesia (and APAC, actually!) is Ms. Erna Witoelar.

The event itself is good. Exclusive, prestigious. The President and VP were also present. And a lot of public figures. BTW, as a souvenir we got a red-carpet style photo frame. Neat…
